Helicoprion Taming Guide - Everything You Need To Know
Published on: 31 August 2025
The Helicoprion is the newest creature added to ARK: Survival Ascended, released on August 29, 2025. This guide explains everything you need to know about how to tame the Helicoprion, including what items you need, where to find it, and tips to survive the dangerous taming process.
What You Need
Looted items only - the Helicoprion ignores crafted gear.
Examples of valid loot: weapons or armor from supply drops, gear dropped by bosses, and high-quality items looted from caves or ocean creatures.
A strong water mount such as a Megalodon or Plesiosaur for protection.
Optional: Little Ratfish Treats (unlocked at level 91) for faster taming progress.
How and Where to Find It
The Helicoprion can be found in the open ocean of ARK: Survival Ascended, especially in deep-water areas far from the shore where large predators roam. On The Island, it appears most often along the northeastern and eastern ocean borders (around 15-30 latitude, 80-90 longitude), while in Ragnarok it can be seen in the northern ocean zones (approx. 10-25 latitude, 15-35 longitude), and on The Center it patrols deep ocean biomes and some underwater caves. To locate one, it’s best to travel with a fast water mount like an Ichthyosaurus or Megalodon, carry a GPS to mark coordinates, and keep watch for its distinctive spiral jaw silhouette moving through the depths. Since the creature is aggressive when disturbed, always be ready to retreat quickly, and bring backup support if scouting in dangerous ocean areas.
Taming Method
Approach the head of the Helicoprion carefully.
Drop a looted item in the water nearby.
The Helicoprion will consume it and enter a frenzy.
During frenzy, immediately mount your creature and retreat – each feed may spawn 6 level-1 Megalodons that attack you.
Repeat the feeding process until the taming bar is complete.
Hazards
Megalodon spawns: Each frenzy brings extra sharks, so don’t linger nearby.
Ammonite bile: Frenzies may also trigger bile clouds that attract aggression.
Ratfish Treats: They can speed up taming but may cause more risk.
Tips
Farm loot from beacons, bosses, and caves before attempting the tame.
Stay on your mount when the frenzy starts.
Bring a friend or tribe mate to distract spawned sharks.
Keep spare loot items - the taming process can require several.
Abilities & Uses
Once tamed, the Helicoprion becomes a powerful and unique ocean mount:
Blueprint Creation - The Helicoprion has the rare ability to craft random blueprints by consuming loot items, giving tribes a new way to obtain high-quality gear.
Loot Grinder - Extra or useless loot can be fed to the Helicoprion, making it a valuable recycler of equipment.
Combat Role - Its size and strength make it a dangerous underwater fighter, with the ability to thrash enemies during its frenzy attacks.
Tribe Utility - Perfect for players who farm a lot of loot and want to convert it into better gear while also having a powerful marine predator.
Taming the Helicoprion takes patience, looted gear, and a strong mount, but it is well worth the effort.
Not only is it a fierce underwater predator, but it also provides a unique way to generate blueprints and high-quality items in ARK: Survival Ascended. Add this prehistoric shark to your tribe and make the most of both its strength and utility.
