Elderclaw Overview
The Elderclaw is a powerful creature closely tied to nature. Covered in vines and blossoms, it uses root entanglement and Spirit Echo pulses to defend itself and support allies. When threatened, it can wrap itself in living armor and release energy bursts that weaken enemies while strengthening your tribe. It doesn’t attack unprovoked, but it becomes a serious threat if disturbed.
Unlike most creatures, the Elderclaw cannot be knocked out and tamed with tranquilizers. You must raise it from a seed or cub using crop plots and careful preparation.
Where to Find Elderclaws
Elderclaws spawn primarily in dense forest regions across Valguero Ascended. Players have spotted them most frequently in thick woodland areas. If you’re searching for seeds, these wild Elderclaws are your main target.
They are generally neutral when approached. However, if attacked or if a cub is nearby, they will become extremely aggressive and use their vine-based abilities to control the fight.
How to Get Elderclaw Seeds
The first step is to obtain an Elderclaw seed. Seeds can drop from wild Elderclaws when they are killed, and they can also be produced through breeding if you already own a pair. Keep a few spare seeds, if a crop is destroyed mid-growth, you’ll have to start over.
How to Tame the Elderclaw
The taming process focuses on nurturing rather than combat. Here’s how it works:
- Get a Seed: Hunt wild Elderclaws to obtain a seed. Keep it safe, as it’s essential to the tame.
- Plant and Grow: Place the seed in a Large Crop Plot, irrigate it, and add fertilizer. A greenhouse effect will speed up growth significantly. The plant will progress through several stages: seedling, sprout and then bud.
- Claim the Cub: Once the plant reaches its bud stage, interact with it to release the baby Elderclaw. Claim it like you would any baby creature.
- Raise It: Feed and imprint the cub until it matures. The Elderclaw eats both meat and berries, making the raising process more flexible than some other Fantastic Tames.
- Protect Your Garden: While the seedling grows and during the raising phase, protect the area with walls, spikes, or gates. Wild creatures may attack the crop or the cub.
Once fully grown, the Elderclaw will become a loyal, powerful companion with unique defensive and supportive abilities.
Abilities and Uses
Tamed Elderclaws excel in area control and support roles. Their vine armor makes them surprisingly tanky, while their Spirit Echo pulses provide valuable buffs in group fights. They’re particularly effective at holding forest chokepoints, defending bases surrounded by trees, or acting as living support units in raids.
Although not rideable, they bring utility that few creatures can match. Think of them less like a mount and more like a living fortress.
