A standalone mod that introduces the horrific Wyrm. A large serpent that uses an acidic substance as a lethal weapon.

Wild:

There’s something unsettling about this large, crimson serpent. Watching it slither through irradiated wastelands, thriving where most life withers, feels like glimpsing a force of nature rather than a mere creature. It doesn’t hunt like anything encountered before. The Wyrm’s acid - it’s different. It’s not like the Basilisk’s venomous substance nor a Jormungandr’s alkaline substance; this acid is designed purely for the destruction of organic tissue. It burns through flesh with a single bite, where its highest concentration is injected directly into the victim.

Avoiding the Wyrm’s ambushes is crucial. It hides beneath the ground, its forked tail the only warning, barely visible above the surface. When it strikes, there’s no time for second chances. A neutralizing reagent can counteract the acid coursing through the body after a bite, but the airborne acid is an entirely different threat. Surviving in the presence of a Wyrm requires more than caution; a complete hazmat suit is essential. Without full protection, the airborne acid can burn through skin, lungs, and tissues within seconds.

Domesticated:

Harvesting the substance from a tamed Wyrm unlocked new possibilities. Preparing the substance properly is challenging, though the results are unexpected and surprising. Not only does it enhance explosives and ammunition power, but with care, it is useful to coat arrows or even load darts with the corrosive compound. It’s not strong enough to eat through metal, but against flesh and bone, it’s devastating—quite effective against the creatures that keep chasing me in the darkness.

The Wyrm itself can be pacified, controlled, and trained to release bursts of acid or inject it directly into anything in its path. Yet, there’s always that sense of danger, even in the rare moments of control. Handling its acid is a constant risk, a reminder that the Wyrm remains a force beyond full understanding.

Ecosystem Footprint:

As a resilient predator at the top of the ecosystem, it stands matched only by the Drakes and Reapers, with whom the Wyrm regularly fights. What sets the Wyrm apart is its combative nature. Much like its cousins, it exploits the nesting areas of Rock Drakes, indulging in the pleasure of consuming their eggs whole. However, unlike its relatives, which tend to slither away to avoid confrontation, the Wyrm seems to relish the thrill of battle against such fierce rivals.

Global Spawn: 94% for a Wyrm to spawn;
Shares the [base] Basilisk's model, with color regions matching those of the Fire Wyvern;
Tamed passively using Fertilized Rock Drake Eggs, similar to the Basilisk;
Harvesting its corpse yields Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat, Hide, and Acidic Substance;
Its bite inflicts a non-stackable debuff, decreasing health over time. This can be countered by consuming the Neutralizing Reagent;
Weaponizes acid substance with a long ranged AOE attack, applying a debuff that decreases oxygen over time. The effect can be neutralized by consuming the Neutralizing Reagent or wearing a full hazmat suit;
Reduces Metal and Red Gem weights by 75%;
Shares the same stat range as the Basilisk.

Habitat Spawn: Rarely found on the Radiation "Red" Zone, on Aberration;
Global Spawn: 6% for a Alpha Wyrm to spawn, replacing a Wyrm spawn;
Elite Specimen: Comparable to the Alpha Basilisk;
Harvesting the corpse yields Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat, Hide and Acidic Substance (+);
It shares the same stat range as the Alpha Basilisk;
